Darul Hana to be ready in year
: The first phase of Darul Hana Development Project that involves a new mosque at Kampung Seberang Hilir in Petra Jaya here is scheduled for completion within a year.
With floor area of over 7,100 sq metres, the Darul Hana Mosque is situated at Block 1 of the development area stretching from Kampung Boyan to Kampung Bintawa Hilir.
Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony at the project site here yesterday, Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said the BN government would keep its promise of developing several Malay villages in Seberang Hilir.
He added that the villages would be injected with features of modernity while not having their traditional culture and colours compromised through the development initiative.
“I name it Darul Hana means peaceful and harmonious villages or places in Arabic. It is a virtue of the Malays to appreciate what we have and we will continue to struggle for the betterment,” he said.
According to a press statement, Darul Hana Development Project consists of 10 construction blocks. Block 1, where Darul Hana Mosque sits, covers 2.28 hectares. With a project cost of RM22.84 million, the new mosque will be able to accommodate 2,740 worshippers.
Among those present at the function were Tourism Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg, Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs) Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, Pantai Damai assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi and Demak Laut assemblyman Dr Hazland Abang Hipni.
