Kpg Datu redevelopment plan nears completion — Dr Annuar
SIBU: The Kampung Datu redevelopment plan is nearing completion, after which it would be presented to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for approval, says Assistant Minister of Housing and Public Health Dr Annuar Rapaee.
However, he adds that the villagers in Kampung Datu Lama and Kampung Hilir would not be relocated, although some have moved to the new housing in Kampung Datu Baru.
“Once the CM agrees with the concept, budget and costing of Kampung Datu redevelopment plan, we will engage the people. We can’t engage them now because we don’t know what the state government is offering,” Dr Annuar, who is also Assistant Minister of Education and Technological Research, told reporters after a visit to Kemuyang Development Project site here yesterday.
On June 20, 2013, a total of 61 lots in Kampung Datu Lama/Hilir were razed by fire, leaving 143 families homeless.
According to Dr Annuar, the Kemuyang Development Project is to cater for the housing needs of extended families of Kampung Datu, Kampung Hilir, Kampung Nangka and Kampung Bandong.
He expressed hope that the people would understand that housing needs could not be addressed in ‘a blink of an eye’.
The media had recently reported that a fire victim had been waiting for five years to own a house.
“There are matters such as land acquisition and earth-filling works that need to be sorted out before construction can take place,” Dr Annuar, who is Nangka assemblyman, said.
